Join Spicy Mango Comics for a day in the life 4 fold zine workshop. During this workshop participants will learn how to create a zine out of a single sheet of paper. In this zine participants will create/draw/write a short day in the life comic about what happened during your day. Collage and draw to create this piece of artwork to take home, scan, and reproduce to your liking!
Zines are one of the many reminders that our capacity for survival, joy, and play are abundant. Come celebrate this mindset of abundance. Join alongside other creatives, organizers, healers, storytellers, nerds, and witches who know that, within our communities, we have enough. We don’t need traditional publishers or formal conferences to share what we know or to learn from each other. We can do it ourselves.
We’ll spend the afternoon using zines as a lens to share our radical imaginings and tell the stories we need to hear. Whether you’ve never made a zine before or you’re a zinester from wayback, this event is for everyone. We’ll have a few workshops, so many craft supplies, space for creative play, and an abundance of snacks and good vibes.
Our agenda is flexible and modular, empowering everyone at Let’s Swap to create space for the conversations and creative projects they want to manifest. Throughout the day we’ll have community-led Micro-Workshops as spaces for y'all to nerd out, cast spells, swap skills. These are 10-30 minute informal workshops on any and everything you can imagine: the best places to get things printed, binding skill-share, Fast & Furious fanzines—it’s all fair game!
If you have an idea about what you want to offer the group ahead of time, submit a quick proposal, and we'll add you to the schedule.

Got a work in progress? Bring it! Got old zines to swap or random junk to get rid of (old books, cute dresses, vintage collars)? Bring them for our free market! Have an idea that you haven’t had time to work on yet? Let’s get it started! Found a zine RPG you still haven’t gotten to play through? Come hang out! Feeling socially and/or creatively anxious or worried about accessibility? We get that! We’re taking steps to create an accessible and safe space for participants.
The event is curated by RV Dougherty with the support of Kickstarter Music’s Meredith Graves. We’ve got a kickass group of collaborators including:
Let’s Swap strives to be an anti-oppressive space. We aim to facilitate a welcoming and trusting community that can engage with each other amidst the joy, complexity, and nuance of each of our individual experiences.
Here are the ways we aim to hold ourselves and each other accountable:
Expectations
As a space driven by sharing, creative play, and abundance, Let’s Swap is an opportunity to model the kind of world in which we want to live. Most of the time, we will get along, but sometimes we will have disagreements or concerns. As we move through the day together, here are some things to keep in mind:
1. Be welcoming and supportive: offer help as you are able, and remember how lonely new rooms can be. Everyone in the space has deep knowledge of their own, share and honor your wisdom.
2. Stay flexible; shape change: together, let’s generate new ideas and foster our ability to create and connect with one another. Our schedule is flexible and modular, so things will change as energy shifts throughout the day. Help shape these changes by manifesting what feels good for you.
3. Take care of yourself: name your needs and your boundaries, ask for help, stay hydrated. If someone is asking you for support or trusting you with their needs, do your best to help them find a resource or solution.
Safer Space Policy and Enforcement
We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ability, mental illness, neurotype, physical appearance, body, age, economic status, nationality, language, or religion. We will not tolerate harassment in any form.
Let’s Swap prioritizes marginalized people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort.
If you experience or witness harassment or have any other concerns, please contact the organizers who will be wearing bright orange buttons and available throughout the space.
If a participant engages in harassing behavior, Let’s Swap organizers may take any action we deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from all Kickstarter and Let's Swap spaces.
If the person who is harassing you is a member of staff, they will be removed from handling your incident. All reports will be handled in the strictest confidence. We will respond as promptly as we can.
Accessibility
All-Gender Restrooms
The second floor has multi-stall all-gender restrooms, with single-stall restrooms available on the third floor.
Wheelchair Access
The main event will be on the second floor of the Kickstarter office. The building is wheelchair accessible through the front entrance, with one elevator near the staircase.
Temperature
The space is very well air conditioned. Sometimes it can be a bit chilly. If you get cold easily, bring an extra layer.
Sound-related
There will be music playing in communal workshop areas and in the room with snacks and the Free Market. If you have any sound issues, or just feel it’s “too loud,” we’re cool with turning it down! We will also have 2 rooms dedicated as quiet workspace and 2 rooms dedicated for quieter conversation for folks who want less background noise.
If you need an ASL interpreter, please let us know when you RSVP.
Security-related
Kickstarter’s office is staffed by Knight Security. There will be two security guards around the building. You do not need to “show ID” or interact with security during the event.
Allergens
Kickstarter’s office is home to many dogs and plants. Furniture may have dog dander or other allergens. Additionally, Kickstarter is a peanut-free office.
If you have dietary restrictions, please let us know when you RSVP.
